About thirty years before the events of Star Wars - A New Hope, a dispute over the taxation of trade routes has erupted in the Galactic Republic. The peaceful planet Naboo, with its Queen Amidala, is attacked by the greedy Trade Federation. When the Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi attempt to negotiate on behalf of the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, they narrowly escape an assassination attempt. During their joint escape with Queen Amidala, they are forced to make an emergency landing on the desert planet Tatooine. There, they are helped by the slave boy Anakin Skywalker, who assists in repairing their spaceship.
