By chance, Professor Lindenbrook (James Mason) comes into possession of a document that recounts an incredible expedition. Over 300 years ago, the Icelander Arne Saknussem is said to have embarked on a journey to the center of the Earth, from which he never returned. Completely fascinated, Lindenbrook organizes a new expedition. Together with student Alec (Pat Boone), widow Goetaborg (Arlene Dahl), Icelander Hans, and duck Gertrud, he sets off on the adventurous journey to the center of the Earth. The path into the dark underground labyrinth holds the most incredible dangers and secrets. One of them is a second group of explorers who are on the same mission.
