For years, woodcarver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted the neighborhood children with stories about a wild dragon that lives in the deep forests of the Pacific Northwest. For his daughter Grace, a forest ranger in the area, these stories were nothing more than legends until she meets a boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley). The mysterious ten-year-old has neither family nor a home and claims to live in the woods with a giant green dragon named Elliot. Remarkably, the creature described by Pete bears a striking resemblance to the dragon from Mr. Meacham's tales. Along with eleven-year-old Natalie (Oona Laurence), the daughter of lumber mill owner Jack (Wes Bentley), Grace sets out to uncover Pete's origins and the mystery of his dragon.
