Despite numerous activities suggesting a slow adaptation of society to the challenges of climate change, society appears to be responding too slowly. What societal structures contribute to this, and which actors might promise a faster and more appropriate response? Following Helmut Wilke's work "Climate Crisis and Social Theory: Challenges and Opportunities of Global Environmental Policy" (2023), the authors engage with various forms of crises and crisis management. How detailed must and can we imagine the response to such a comprehensive threat as the climate catastrophe? What roles do functional systems like politics, law, and the economy play? Are there meaningful concepts for a globally beneficial form of solidarity? What theoretical assumptions underpin a science that calls for action? What political actions transcend the narrow framework of a national order, whose self-interests must assert themselves in competition? This volume addresses Helmut Wilke's questions and discusses them in a sociological and political science context.
