In this tragicomical attack on bourgeois society, the homeless tramp falls hopelessly in love with a blind flower girl. Whether as a prizefighter or a street sweeper, Charlie tries everything to finance the necessary eye surgery for the girl. A dubious acquaintance with a millionaire, whom he saves from suicide, suddenly brings him a fortune. But his happiness is short-lived.
