Denji really drew the short straw: When he was young, his father took his own life, leaving him with a mountain of debt that he now has to pay off to the Yakuza. Since then, he has been taking on various jobs to somehow make ends meet. His only friend and loyal companion is the little chainsaw devil Pochita, with whom he made a pact to help each other. One day, Denji is betrayed by his employer and brutally killed - only to be reborn shortly after as a chainsaw monster and wreak havoc. Standing blood-soaked among the corpses of his enemies, the attractive Makima from the Public Safety Bureau appears before him and presents him with a choice: either he is killed by her as a devil - or he becomes her obedient pet and works as a devil hunter from then on.
