Totally unprepared, the legendary Lightning McQueen is being driven out of the sport he loves so much by a new generation of fast racing cars. In order to keep up with him again, he is dependent on the help of the ambitious and young race engineer Cruz Ramirez. To bring Lightning back to the top, she has already hatched a plan. With the late Doc Hudson as her role model and some unexpected driving manoeuvres she wants to realize her plan. To prove that the starting number #95 is not yet out of date, Lightning has to prove his fighting spirit on the biggest stage of the Piston Cup race.
