Fresh air, beautiful nature, and far away from London! This is what Alfie McAlister thinks when he inherits his aunt's cottage in the Cotswolds. He seizes the opportunity to leave the capital behind for a while. Hardly has he arrived in the picturesque Bunburry when he meets Liz and Marge, two old ladies who have a lot more to them than meets the eye and who immediately take him into their big hearts. But soon Alfie realizes: even though the scent of the best fudge in the Cotswolds is tempting, crime exists even in the most beautiful idyll. Together with Liz and Marge, Alfie discovers his passion for investigating, and as a team, the three solve every case!

Harold Wilson, the local policeman in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry, can't stand Alfie McAlister. Alfie is everything he is not: handsome, popular, wealthy - and significantly more successful at catching criminals. But there is someone Wilson dislikes even more - Reverend Philip Brown. When the vicar is suspected of robbing and vandalizing a farm shop, it plays right into the policeman's hands. The reverend claims he cannot remember where he was on the night in question. Alfie is convinced of Philip's innocence and, together with Liz and Marge, begins to investigate. But in doing so, they awaken the ghosts of the past...
