Berlin childhood around 1900

The great philosopher and cultural critic Walter Benjamin looks back with an apparently childishly naïve gaze. His memories of his childhood in Jewish bourgeois circumstances in Berlin at the turn of the century are at the same time poetic reflections, condensed by the experiences of the adult. They are moments, objects and encounters that are assembled in artistic linguistic images: a butterfly hunt in the Berlin countryside, reflections on the Victory Column, the contemplation of a telephone.
