Maria, a young Portuguese woman, comes to Berlin in the mid-1980s to study. Here, she immerses herself in the squatter scene, meets the eccentric theater director Falk, and dreams of a self-determined life. However, despite all her plans, she ultimately finds herself as a wife and mother in the German countryside. While her husband Hartmut advances his career, she is left with the house, the child, and long afternoons in front of the DVD player. For a long time, she adapts to the circumstances, but when her daughter becomes independent, she makes a decision that calls everything into question.
