On the small island of Lummerland, a lighthouse is urgently needed. King Alfons the Quarter-to-Twelve sends the two locomotive drivers, Jim and Lukas, to Mr. Tur-Tur, the illusion giant, to bring him to Lummerland. On their journey, they encounter the mermaid Sursulapitschi, who asks them to repair the magnet in Magnet Mountain, which has made the sea glow for thousands of years. Jim and Lukas are able to help.

Then, through a world-changing invention, they teach Emma how to fly and experience dangerous and exciting adventures in search of Jim's origins. Jim's friends are captured by the pirate gang "The Wild 13," and Jim manages to rescue them. The golden dragon Mrs. Malzahn and "The Wild 13" ultimately assist Jim and Lukas in their quest for the mysterious land of Jamballa.
