The two farmer's sons, Per and Pål, are suspected of having poisoned the royal couple. Their only hope is their brother Espen, who sets out with Princess Kristin in search of the legendary castle Soria Moria, said to be built of pure gold. According to legend, there is a well there that contains the water of life – the only remedy for the king and queen. If Espen and Kristin fail, it will mean the end for the brothers, the kingdom, and perhaps the entire world.
