After Johann Friedrich von Allmen successfully uncovered the mystery of the missing gall shells in the pilot film, for which a substantial reward was offered, he decided to make the search for lost art objects his profession. Together with his Guatemalan servant Carlos, Allmen opened a detective agency for missing art objects in Zurich - "Allmen International Inquiries."

Allmen's first official client is the Englishman Montgomery, who hires Allmen to find a stolen pink diamond worth 45 million francs, the owner of which wishes to remain anonymous. Although Carlos warns Allmen about the dubious assignment, Allmen accepts it due to the generous advance payment and sets out to search for the supposedly vanished intermediary of the thief.
