Adalbert Stifter, born in 1805 in Oberplan, Bohemia, is considered one of the most significant writers of the Biedermeier period. After abandoning several degree programs, he worked from 1830 as a painter, school inspector, and regional conservator in Vienna and Linz. Stifter achieved his literary breakthrough in 1842 with the story "Abdias." Nevertheless, he struggled with financial difficulties throughout his life. Due to severe illness and depression, he committed suicide in 1868. Unabridged reading by Gert Westphal, 1 mp3-CD, approximately 3 hours and 58 minutes.
