In 1925, football is popular only through the college teams, while the young professional league is ignored by viewers. This changes when veteran player Connolly (George Clooney) signs the attractive Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski) for his team. The huge investment seems well spent, after all, the king of college football is also a war hero. In fact, the stadiums fill up immediately. Reporter Lexie (Renée Zellweger) is put on the naive folk hero and elicits a secret from him that calls his future and the reputation of the sport into question. (1 Blu-ray)

After a strong political focus in his recent work as an actor and director, George Clooney goes for light-hearted entertainment in his third feature. The models for his romantic comedy are the screwball classics of the golden Hollywood era. He pays convincing tribute to them in witty dialog duels with Reneé Zellweger, which, supported by a loving set, outshine the frame story. Also well worth seeing thanks to the cast.
