A day longer than a lifetime

When the trackman Kasangap dies after forty years of service at the train station, the elderly Edige brings his friend's body to the cemetery. His journey takes him through the vastness of the steppe, alongside a fence that borders a spaceport. There, an interplanetary incident threatens to plunge the superpowers back into their old, destructive conflict. In East Germany, the novel was published in 1982 under the title "Der Tag zieht den Jahrhundertweg," and later it was released as "Ein Tag länger als ein Leben."
