A young woman's journey out of captivity ISBadeeah Ahmed Hassan is just 18 when IS fighters attack her village in Iraq. Along with hundreds of other Yazidi women and girls, she is abducted and sold to Syria. There she ends up as a house slave to a high-ranking IS fighter in Aleppo. She is regularly mistreated. In months of captivity, it is the memories and stories from her childhood that give her support. From these, she draws the strength to flee and find her family again.The young author tells her story to give her people a voice, to draw attention to the genocide of the Yezidis, and to give courage to oppressed women and people around the world.
