Stockholm in the year 1793: A mutilated corpse is recovered. Arms and legs are missing, and the rest is almost unrecognizable. Two investigators team up to solve this gruesome discovery: Jean Michael Cardell, a traumatized war veteran with a wooden hand, and the lawyer Cecil Winge, more brilliant than Sherlock Holmes and responsible for special crimes at the Stockholm police.
