Question about TomTom Go 5100 World

Is the memory expandable, so that the lack of memory space for map updates doesn't end after 1-2 years? I have experienced this twice now. No compl. update possible.

As stated in the technical data, the memory capacity is 8Gb and expandable with a micro SDHC.
But I had the Tomtom 5000 and after 2 years I could still update without problems.
The reason for this is probably that the new update always overwrites the old one.
