I would like to use the plant granulate as a "Seramis" substitute (i.e. without a special pot with water reservoir and indicator, but in a normal pot without a hole). Is this possible? Does the product have the same water storage and conductivity as Seramis?

1. It's always better to have holes at the bottom of the pots!

As far as water retention is concerned, I can't say; I've never paid any particular attention to it.

To have enormous water retention, you'd have to use vermiculite
Holos Holos Vermiculite 10 litres

I bought the small "Seramis" aggregates, which are just expanded clay (earth popcorn). The only place I used them was at the bottom of a glass container with a large cork (terrarium) with the specific aim of being able to better assess the humidity because the colour CHANGES between wet and dry (brown -> orange).

These granules are what I was looking for to help drain pots (with holes, of course!) or those with a water reserve.
These aggregates are popcorn made from rocks (volcanic, pumice) and clay. They are much larger (2-3x) than Seramis and much less visible in the substrate. I don't like clay balls or seramis in my pots any more.

Good luck!
