The red honeysuckle, botanically known as Lonicera xylosteum, is a native plant that reaches a height of up to 3 metres and is particularly suitable for wild hedges.
It flowers from May to June, during which time the yellow and white flowers appear, giving off a pleasant scent and attracting bees and other insects. After flowering, red berries form, which are particularly popular with birds, which is why the plant is also known as a bird food plant.
The red honeysuckle is hardy, which makes it a robust choice for various garden locations. It prefers a sunny location, but also copes well with semi-shady conditions. Its ability to integrate well into wild hedge structures, as well as its importance as a food source for birds, make it a valuable plant in naturalised gardens.
Note: Please note that the plant may look different from the pictures depending on the vegetation cycle.
