A rubbing board is a hand tool used for rubbing down newly applied plaster or screed. The aim is to achieve a firmer layer of plaster and more uniform plaster surface. Depending on the movement in which the rubbing board is applied to the plaster - circular, vertical or horizontal - it can give the plaster different textures or serve only to smooth the plaster.
