Surge protection. Measuring, controlling, and regulating. Surge protection with individual components and surge diodes. Surge diodes operate similarly to conventional Zener diodes. Once a breakdown voltage set by the manufacturer is exceeded, the diode becomes conductive within 10 to 100 picoseconds. Compared to Zener diodes, surge diodes have a higher current carrying capacity and a shorter response time.
