Surge protection. Measuring, controlling, and regulating. Surge protection with individual components and surge diodes. Surge diodes function similarly to conventional Zener diodes. After exceeding a breakdown voltage specified by the manufacturer, the diode becomes conductive within 10 to 100 picoseconds. Compared to Zener diodes, surge diodes have a higher current-carrying capacity and a shorter response time.
