Product details

Lemongrass has a sweet taste that is widely used in countries like Thailand and India and is a staple in everyday dishes. However, it is not readily available in all stores. Therefore, it can be wrapped in newspaper and placed in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator, where it will stay fresh for several weeks. In the freezer, it has a long shelf life and can be easily thawed.

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), also known as West Indian lemongrass or Guatemalan lemongrass, is a plant species within the grass family (Poaceae). It is known only from cultivation, and its original habitat is unknown. This species and several other Cymbopogon species are cultivated and used as spices and medicinal plants in the same way.

Cultivation: The lemongrass plant requires plenty of light, warmth, and moisture. It is therefore well-suited for wintering in a room greenhouse. After the ice saints or at temperatures above 15 degrees, it can be easily grown on the balcony or in the garden. Additionally, lemongrass is a perennial plant. For seed cultivations, the plant should not be kept too wet. In a larger stage, it is important to keep the plant very moist.

Origin: Originally, lemongrass was used as a side dish, in tea, or as a remedy. It comes from tropical regions, particularly India, Sri Lanka, Java, Thailand, and the Philippines, as well as California.

Care: Lemongrass is often affected by rust fungi but can be well protected with good care. It can be harvested year-round but is not frost-resistant. Propagation occurs only through division or seeds. The seed pack contains 100 seeds.
