Korean Mint
This hardy perennial grows to about 80 cm tall, produces numerous upright, blue-violet flowers, and has a fragrance reminiscent of both mint and anise. It is compact and sturdy.
The long flowering period lasts from June to October, attracting many butterflies. Korean mint is excellent for fragrant perennial and cottage gardens. It is also well-suited as a container plant.
Pruning after flowering often leads to a second bloom in the same year.
Agastache rugosa Blue Spike
Origin: Native to East Asia, including Japan, China, and Korea. Now also available here.
Cultivation: Sprinkle the seeds on sifted herb soil or moist seedling substrate, cover lightly, and keep evenly moist. The seeds can even germinate in regular garden soil.
Usage: The leaves can be wonderfully used as a tea herb. When consumed lukewarm or cold, it is a perfect thirst quencher. Pick the leaves as needed. They have the strongest aroma just before blooming. The robust leaves are also suitable for drying and can be used with vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, or beetroot. The flowers can be used to decorate pudding or fruit salad. The leaves provide the body with minerals and can often be consumed without concerns.
Care: Korean mint loves bright to full sun locations. The soil can be loosened by adding sand to ensure good water drainage. Plant the plants 40 cm apart to prevent them from crowding each other due to their vigorous growth.
Wintering: The perennial is winter-hardy and will sprout again the following year. It can also be successfully grown indoors during the winter.
