Tropica Kenya banana
Fruit seedProduct details
Kenya Banana
Banana trees are among the more unusual phenomena in the plant kingdom.
The Kenya or mini banana is one of the smaller species. It grows about 1.50 metres high in pots, forms leaves about 1 metre long and is the only species that sets fruit after 2 to 3 years, even in our country. Musa velutina
Origin: The plant is native to Africa and is also widespread in tropical America.
Growing: The seeds can be grown indoors all year round. Roughen the hard seed coat with sandpaper and let the seeds soak in room temperature water for 12 hours. Then place the seeds in moist growing soil and cover thinly with soil. Keep the soil evenly moist and place the propagator in a very warm place (25° to 30° C). Germination will take place after about 3 weeks - at colder temperatures it can take 5 to 10 weeks.
Location / light: Bright and sunny places are ideal - in summer also outdoors in wind-protected locations.
Care: The Kenya banana thrives in uniform soil and is best planted in a large pot. It roots quickly and strongly and has an enormous water consumption. In midsummer it is best to water twice a day. From May to September the plant must be supplied weekly with pot plant fertiliser.
Overwintering: Look for a bright place not below 8° C. In rooms with high air dryness you should spray the leaves a lot, otherwise the undersides of the leaves can be attacked by pests. Water also in winter, but avoid waterlogging.
