Bird of Paradise Flower

This Strelitzia belongs to the banana family and produces leaves that can grow up to 1 meter long. The flower is orange-blue and resembles an exotic bird. The first bloom appears after 4-6 years, but the long wait is rewarded with flowers from spring to winter.

Origin: It is native to South Africa and widely distributed in the Canary Islands.

Cultivation: Seeds can be sown indoors year-round. Before sowing, the seeds must be washed in soapy water and then scalded with hot water. This removes the waxy coating and stimulates germination. After that, let the seeds soak for another 12 hours. Then plant them in cactus or seedling soil. Never let the soil dry out; keep it moist but not soggy. With consistent warmth, the seeds will germinate in 3 to 6 weeks.

Location/Light: The plants love bright and sunny spots, especially on the south or west side. They enjoy being outdoors from summer to autumn. Blooming may suffer in shady areas.

Care: Use a large pot due to the strong root growth and place it in potting soil. Water generously in summer. From April to October, add liquid fertilizer for container plants or organic fertilizer, such as from Bio Bizz, in a diluted form weekly.

Be careful when repotting to avoid damaging the fine roots.

Wintering: Place in a bright location and water only occasionally. Do not store below 8 degrees. Mist the plant from time to time.

Seed packet containing 5 seeds.

30-day right of return if unopened
