Product details
The Australian Firewheel Tree is a very beautiful ornamental plant that is perfect for offices, gardens, or even at home, making an appealing figure. The Aborigines call the tree "Wheel of Fire" due to its spectacular flowers. This rarity from the subtropical rainforest is highly valued for its unique, deeply lobed, elegant leaves, striking flowers, and ease of care in pots.
Origin:
The Firewheel Tree is native to the Australian rainforest along the Nabucca River near Coffs Harbour in New South Wales.
Cultivation:
Sowing the seeds indoors is possible year-round. Soak the winged seeds in room-temperature water overnight, then plant them 1 cm deep in moist seedling soil with the thick germinating end facing down. At around 20 to 25 °C, the seeds will germinate in about 3 weeks.
Location / Light:
The plant requires a bright, semi-shaded spot. As a young plant, it should be protected from direct sunlight. From May to November, it can be placed outdoors.
Care:
Water the Firewheel Tree generously during the summer months and feed it with pot plant fertilizer every 3 weeks from April to September. Avoid waterlogging by using a breathable pot, such as a Root Pouch, or ensure proper drainage. This allows the Firewheel Tree to reach a height of 1.50 to 1.80 meters. Pruning will make it bushier and encourage branching. It requires well-draining soil.
Wintering:
Choose a bright spot for the cold months. The temperature can range from 5 to 20 °C. Even older plants can only tolerate very light frost. Water the Firewheel Tree less in winter.
