Accessory/Spare Part Type: Brake Resistor
The brake resistor for power modules FSB has a maximum power of 2200 W at 12 S and 5% duty cycle with a resistance of 68 Ohm and a continuous power rating of 110 W. It is an accessory for frequency converters and is specifically designed for the Power Module PM240-2 for the modular frequency converter SINAMICS G120. The brake resistors dissipate the excess energy from the intermediate circuit.
They are intended for use with the Power Modules PM240-2 and PM240 and are mounted alongside the Power Modules. These modules feature an integrated brake chopper and cannot feed back generated energy into the grid. For generator operation, such as braking a flywheel with a large moment of inertia, a brake resistor is required to convert the generated energy into heat.
For the power modules of sizes FSD to FSGX, the brake resistors should be placed outside the control cabinet or switchgear room to dissipate the resulting waste heat. This reduces the need for climate control. Each brake resistor is equipped with a temperature switch. To avoid consequential damage in the event of thermal overload, the temperature switch should be monitored.
The brake resistor is available for sizes FSA to FSC as well as for the Power Module PM240-2 (size FSC to FSF). For size FSGX, a pluggable braking module is available as an option.
