Andean Berry Schönbrunner Gold
Physalis peruviana
This Schönbrunner Andean berry not only looks like gold but also deserves gold! The cherry-sized, golden-yellow berries have a sweet-tart, wonderfully aromatic flavor and are rich in vitamin C. If not all of the delicious ripe fruits have made their way straight from hand to mouth, they are also perfect for making equally delicious compote and jam or as chocolate-covered pralines.
The Andean berry requires a lot of warmth. It is recommended to start cultivation in a greenhouse or indoors from March at 20-24 °C. Young plants can be planted outdoors or placed in pots outside from mid-May. Cultivation under glass or plastic is not advisable. The Andean berry needs nutrient-rich soil and plenty of fertilizer, grows up to 1.50 m tall, and greatly appreciates support. Harvesting can take place from late August to October. It is not frost-resistant!
The seeds come from controlled organic cultivation.
