Product details
Willamette promises early enjoyment with medium-sized, red to dark red, firm, and very easily pickable berries. These berries are particularly juicy, aromatic, and sweet with a pleasantly mild acidity. Additionally, this raspberry variety is hardly susceptible to cane diseases and root rot. Summer raspberries like Willamette bear fruit on two-year-old canes, which should be cut back close to the ground in the fall. The current year's shoots remain and will produce fruit in the following year.
Rubus idaeus Willamette grows in a bushy form and typically reaches a height of 1.5 to 2 meters and can spread up to 1 to 1.5 meters wide.
Spring and autumn are the best planting times, but container plants can be planted year-round. The planting hole should be twice as wide and deep as the root ball. Remove the pot, loosen the root ball, place the plant in the hole, fill with soil, press down firmly, and water thoroughly.
The plant should be watered regularly, allowing the soil to dry out in between.
The Willamette raspberry is relatively low-maintenance and is particularly recommended for inexperienced plant lovers. Tip: Use a slow-release fertilizer in the spring. This provides nutrients slowly and continuously, ensuring the plant is evenly nourished over a longer period.
Planting should occur between March and October, and fertilizing should take place from April to mid-August. The plant should be pruned back between late July and October.
