Product details
Wisteria, better known as Blue Rain, is a lushly flowering vine that can be used on pergolas or against walls and fences. The plant originates from the United States, China, and Japan. It is a fast-growing climbing plant with beautiful blue, drooping flowers. The long flower clusters are wonderfully fragrant and can grow up to 25 cm in length. It is a lovely climbing plant whose branches sway everywhere. Especially at the beginning, they need support, as the branches do not have adhesive roots. A mature Wisteria can be quite heavy, so a solidly constructed pergola is particularly useful. It is important to guide the branches in such a way that they do not damage downspouts or gutters, as Wisteria is vigorous and can cause damage.
Care
Wisteria is not a difficult plant, but it does need a little help to grow against a wall or on a pergola. The plant prefers a sunny location and moderately moist soil. It is very resilient and needs to be pruned 1-2 times a year. In late summer, around July/August, the side shoots of the Wisteria can become enormous. The plant can climb up to ten meters high. Trim the long side shoots back to about 40-50 centimeters to help the plant get through the winter well. In early spring, around January/February, cut the side shoots back to about 10-15 centimeters. Always prune the Wisteria in frost-free weather. After pruning, the plant quickly regrows and produces its beautiful purple flowers.
