Product details
Hydrangea anomala petiolaris, better known as climbing hydrangea, is native to Japan and Northeast Asia. This wild hydrangea primarily grows in wooded and mountainous areas. The climbing hydrangea is self-clinging. With its aerial roots, it can attach itself to almost any surface and reach a maximum height of 4 to 5 meters. If you do not allow Hydrangea 'Petiolaris' to climb, you can also grow it as a shrub or ground cover. The plant is very suitable for gardens as it is hardy. The maximum height of the shrub will then be about 2 meters. The hydrangea blooms from June to August with beautiful large white flowers.
Care
The hydrangea 'Petiolaris' is not demanding in terms of location or soil type, making it a very popular climbing plant. Note that the plant produces fewer flowers in a shady location than in a sunny one. The climbing hydrangea does not grow very quickly but can reach a height of 4 to 5 meters. It grows both vertically and horizontally, allowing it to be directed into the desired shape and direction. If the climbing hydrangea becomes too large, you can simply prune it back. The best time for this is right after flowering or in winter, as the plant is hardy.
