Product details
Acer palmatum 'Cascade Gold' is a very special Japanese maple, particularly due to its unique shape. Unlike most other Japanese maples, the Acer Cascade Gold grows in a strongly weeping manner. Without a trunk, it would almost be a ground cover. The Acer Cascade Gold is a narrow plant with branches that hang down along its entire length. The beautiful star-shaped leaves are green in summer and spectacularly turn orange-red in autumn. In late autumn and early winter, the plant enters a dormant phase and loses its leaves. In spring, the Acer produces new green leaves again. The plant is winter hardy.
Care
Japanese maples are best planted from March to early October. During this time, the soil is warmer, and the plants can root easily. Japanese maples are robust plants, but in a windy location, the leaves can be easily damaged. Therefore, place the Acer in a sheltered spot. The plant prefers a location in partial shade, ideally with not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can cause the roots and leaves to dry out, leading to leaf damage. The Japanese maple is not evergreen, meaning it loses its leaves in winter. However, it is very resilient and will sprout again in March with beautiful new leaves.
