This machine tap is made from an alloy of HSS steel with a cobalt content of 5%. The cobalt content enhances the heat resistance of the tap. The advantage of a machine tap over a hand tap set is that only one pass is required to create the thread. This tap is used for producing metric ISO standard threads. At the end of the cylindrical shank, there is a square for clamping in a tap wrench. The tap is manufactured according to DIN 371 and is subject to tolerance class h6.
