Michelin Alpine 5

The new winter tyres from Michelin, named Alpin 5, are designed to provide enhanced safety in road traffic. Compared to their predecessor, the Alpin A4, these tyres feature a 12% denser tread pattern, allowing for 16% more sipes. The redesigned tread pattern significantly improves grip, particularly traction on snow-covered roads. The channels in the middle of the tread pattern have been realigned to ensure that water can be removed from the contact area more quickly, thereby reducing the risk of aquaplaning. The three-dimensional sipes enhance stability in the self-locking tread blocks, optimizing steering transmission and enabling more precise steering. The adhesion properties on snow-covered and wet surfaces benefit from a new silica tread compound and additional functional elastomers. Sunflower oil was incorporated into the rubber mixture to ensure optimal adhesion to the road surface, even at low temperatures. The fuel efficiency of the Michelin Alpin 5 is rated Class E, indicating moderate rolling resistance and higher fuel consumption compared to tyres with a more favorable fuel efficiency rating. However, the wet grip of the Alpin 5 is rated better, achieving Class B, which ensures short braking distances on wet roads. At 68 decibels, the Alpin 5 is classified among the quietest tyres, contributing to greater driving comfort for vehicle occupants. Compared to its predecessor, this significantly improved Michelin winter tyre is particularly suitable for medium and compact cars as well as vans, ensuring mobility even in changing winter weather.
