The new winter tyres from Michelin are called Alpin 5 and are designed to provide more safety on the road. Compared to the previous model Alpin A4, these tyres have a 12% denser tread pattern, which offers
space for 16% more sipes. The redesigned tread pattern thus results in significantly improved grip and especially the traction when driving on snowy roads has been improved road holding. The channels in the central area of the tread pattern have been realigned on this tyre model. This measure ensures that the water can drain away from the contact patch more quickly and thus reduces the risk of aquaplaning. The three-dimensional sipes provide greater stability of the self-locking tread blocks which optimises steering transmission and enables more precise steering. The grip on snowy and wet surfaces benefits from a new silica tread compound and the additionally processed functional elastomers. To ensure optimum adhesion to the road surface even at low temperatures, sunflower oil was used in the production of the rubber compound. The fuel efficiency of Michelin Alpin 5 has been rated E, which means that the tyres have a medium rolling resistance and therefore a higher fuel consumption than tyres in a more positive fuel efficiency class. The wet grip of the Alpin 5 from Michelin was rated better, which is convincing in class B with a short braking distance even on wet roads. With 68 decibels, Alpin 5 is in the tyre class with the quietest external noise of the tyre, which leads to a higher driving comfort for the vehicle occupants. The Michelin brand winter tyre, which is much improved compared to its predecessor, is specially designed for medium and compact cars and vans to keep the mobility even during changing winter weather conditions.
