Genovese basil

The leaves of the garden basil 'Genovese Basil' have a spicy flavor. Planting: Spring to summer.

Basil is rightly called the king herb. In ancient times, it was already regarded as the king of spices and was somewhat the highlight of ancient cuisine. Even today, no true kitchen fairy or chef wants to miss it. Often, just a single leaf is enough to give meat or fish dishes the right kick. Of course, it is also popular among vegetarians to enhance the flavor of vegetables and salads.

Ocimum basilicum 'Genovese Basil' grows bushy and typically reaches a height of 40 to 60 cm and can be 20 to 30 cm wide. Its oval and wavy leaves are dark green and shiny.

You should water the plant regularly and allow the soil to dry out in between. The garden basil thrives best in normal garden soil in a sunny location.

The garden basil 'Genovese Basil' is relatively easy to care for and is particularly recommended for inexperienced plant lovers.

Tip: Too much fertilizer can harm the herb's aroma! Provide herbs in pots with herb fertilizer once in spring. When planted in the garden, a compost application at the start of the season is sufficient.
