Currant Kristin
80 cmProduct details
The black currant is a deciduous shrub with distinctly lobed, heart-shaped leaves. Unlike other berry bushes, the branches of Ribes nigrum are thornless. Its namesake fruits have a sweet-sour aroma and are suitable for making fruit juice, jelly, or syrup. Of course, the berries can also be eaten fresh. The harvest season begins in July.
Ribes nigrum Kristin typically reaches a height of 1 to 1.5 meters and can grow up to 1 to 1.5 meters wide.
Spring and autumn are the best times for planting, but container-grown plants can be planted year-round. The planting hole should be twice as large and deep as the root ball. Remove the pot, loosen the root ball, place the plant in the hole, fill with soil, press down firmly, and water thoroughly.
The plant should be watered regularly, allowing the soil to dry out in between.
Tip: Fruit trees planted in spring need to be watered generously throughout the summer. Well-rooted plants only require additional water during extreme dryness. Prune back boldly in spring to encourage compact growth.
Planting should take place between March and October.
