Casström No 10 Swedish Forest Knife

Under the simple name No.10 Forest Knife, Casström has launched a functional yet visually very attractive all-purpose knife for all kinds of outdoor activities such as bushcraft and hunting. The blade, made of non-stainless Böhler K720 steel, is ground to an above-average sharpness ex works. The Casström No.10 Forest Knife is supplied with a beautifully crafted cowhide sheath that holds the knife securely in place. Version with oak handle scales. This knife is also available in various stainless steel versions. Although K720 steel is not stainless, we had no problems with rust during our tests. However, it is advisable never to put the blade wet in the sheath and to oil the knife as required before storing it or travelling to damp areas. Two major advantages of non-stainless steels are the significantly higher achievable final sharpness compared to stainless steels and the fact that they are usually easier to resharpen. Note: Due to the chrome content of 8%, it is corrosion resistant to a certain extent compared to normal carbon steel (approx. 0.5% Cr), but not as good as stainless steel (13% Cr). The blade should therefore be dried after use and protected with oil or wax if stored in an environment with high humidity. Sleipner steel belongs to the category of die steels with 8% chromium and was developed to achieve a toughness similar to that of simple tool steels such as A2, but with a much higher wear resistance, closer to D2. Casström adds a cryogenic treatment cycle at sub-zero temperatures using liquid nitrogen after quenching to make the blades harder and improve the steel structure.
