The tension stop springs installed in some shock absorbers (struts) are designed to prevent damage to the strut if it "pops out" during driving. The spring is located directly inside the shock absorber and is not loaded despite the vehicle's weight when the vehicle is stationary on its wheels. The spring only comes into play when the strut reaches full extension during rebound. The use of a tension stop spring otherwise has no impact on the normal operation of the strut.
