Product details
You will receive the depicted bonsai.
Pinus parvifolia is the botanical name for the Japanese white pine, but it is often also referred to as Pinus pentaphylla. It is a five-needle pine.
The white pine as a bonsai is very popular in Japan. It has strong, bluish-green needles.
Care
The pine prefers a sunny location and well-draining soil. Water it only when the soil is dry. Be sure to avoid waterlogging. When repotting, mix a handful of the old soil with mycorrhiza (white fungal network), if available, into the new substrate.
Design
In April/May, the candles (new shoots) should be pinched back to 1 - 2 cm or completely removed where branching is desired. In autumn, the three-year-old needles turn yellow and can be plucked off by hand. The branches can be easily shaped with wire; if the bark is rough, wrap the branch with a protective tape before wiring.
