Its condition and appearance changes depending on the season: in winter it is leafless, in spring the first leaves appear, in summer the bonsai is fully leafy, in autumn the leaves begin to colour and end with leaf fall and winter dormancy. If the bonsai pictured is no longer available, you will receive a very similar specimen. An exchange is possible if you do not like it. Acer palmatum deshojo belongs to the maple genus. The fan maple originally comes from Japan, Korea and China, but is now also planted as an ornamental tree in gardens in Europe. The "deshojo" (pronounced des-jotscho) variety has bright red leaves in spring, which turn red-green towards summer. Only the new shoots are still bright red at first. The Japanese fan maple as a bonsai impresses with its red foliage in spring and its intense autumn colours. Care As a garden bonsai, the fan maple must be kept outdoors all year round. The new shoots in spring are bright red and change to a greenish colour in summer. To keep the red colouring as long as possible into the summer, this maple variety needs a sunny location. Fan maples like a sheltered spot, as the tips of the leaves turn brown in regular and strong winds. In winter, the root ball should be protected from prolonged cold by wrapping the bonsai pot with a coconut mat, for example, and placing the bonsai in a sheltered position out of the wind. Water abundantly during the summer months, in winter keep the soil only slightly moist and only water on frost-free days. An organic fertiliser, which is available in the form of pellets and placed on the soil in small containers, is suitable for fertilising during the growth phase (March to August). In summer, you can also alternate with liquid fertiliser.
