This brake fluid for hydraulic brake and clutch systems in motor vehicles is particularly suitable for brake systems with electronically controlled hydraulic components due to its low viscosity at extremely cold temperatures. This is crucial for the rapid modulation of brake pressure at the braked wheel, especially in systems designed to prevent oversteer or understeer of the vehicle, known as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). The viscosity at -40 °C is a maximum of 700 mm²/s, which is only about half as high as the corresponding values of many other commercially available DOT 4 fluids and therefore fulfils the requirements of ISO standard 4925 for brake fluids with low temperature viscosity (class 6). The brake fluid consists of polyethylene glycol ethers, polyethylene glycols, their boric acid esters, amines, additives and stabilisers. The ATE DOT 4 brake fluid SL.6 fulfils and exceeds the requirements of the brake fluid standards FMVSS No. 116 - DOT 4, SAE J1704 and ISO 4925, Class 6. The ATE brake fluid SL.6 can be mixed with other brake fluids that comply with the specifications ISO 4925 Class 6, DOT 5.1 or DOT 4. However, optimum ESP functionality at very low temperatures is best ensured with fluids that comply with the ISO 4925 Class 6 standard.
