The ABB Safeball is an innovative and ergonomic machine control device. It consists of a ball with two built-in push buttons, one on each side. A light but distinctly noticeable click signals the intentional activation of the push buttons. To start or operate a machine, both buttons must be pressed simultaneously. If one or more push buttons are released, a stop command is issued to the machine.

The ergonomic shape of the Safeball is perfectly adapted to the human hand, thereby supporting the natural grasp reflex. The Safeball offers a high level of manipulation safety, reducing the risk of injury. The simple connection to the AS-i bus and the fact that no cover for the control elements is required make the Safeball flexibly mountable. ABB Safeballs can be used for either single-hand or two-hand applications. Two-hand controls are typically used on presses and semi-automatic machines with manual feeding.
