Can the car be hitched to a road bike? What are the main considerations for a road bike?
I have a hitch on the road bike and one on the mountain bike, but almost only need the MB with the trailer.
1. braking power is significantly better with the MB (wider pad, disc brakes).
2. on steep inclines, the drive power is significantly better with the MB. On a road bike, the rear wheel tends to spin on steep inclines. In addition, on hills (if you don't have an e-bike) you'll be glad to have a slightly higher gear ratio (smaller gears).
3. the trailer slows you down anyway. Rolling resistance plays a minor role. With the children you rarely ride for time (otherwise you would need an e-bike).

ps: Bike racks are for grandmothers. There are enough possibilities to park the bike... :-)
You will also need a bike stand, otherwise the bike will tip over at every stop...
I have mounted it on a Felt VERZA SPEED 20. It works well. I wouldn't mount it on a carbon bike because of the load.
