For bikers and cyclists a bicycle pump is part of the basic equipment. Stand pumps are ideal for home use. Thanks to the long stroke, the desired pressure can be effortlessly generated with them. Wide feet offer good stability. Generously designed manometers are helpful, from which the air pressure in bar or PSI can be read. Some bicycle pumps are specially designed for tubeless tyres and are equipped with built-in air compressors.
Hand pumps and CO2 pumps can be easily stored in a bicycle backpack or saddle bag as standard equipment and offer help on the go. Hand pumps sometimes have a telescopic function: you extend them during use and thus increase the pressure generation. When buying, make sure that the pump head also fits. Some models are only compatible with Presta or Schrader valves. CO2 pumps work with disposable pressure cartridges. They require little space and are particularly recommended for racing use. With them the breakdown can be repaired in the twinkling of an eye. Printing cartridges often come in two sizes (16g and 25g). For high pressure, e.g. for racing bikes, you should choose the large cartridges.
