Typically, Speed 3 is used in Switzerland, but Speed 2 is becoming increasingly popular. Speed 1 is mainly favored in the Jura or Engadine regions. Other shuttles may fly beyond the court. In badminton, the shuttle's speed is defined by the rules or by the referee, if present, and can only be altered by external geographic or meteorological factors such as temperature and humidity. The level of play or players' preferences do not influence this, at least in terms of control technology. However, at lower levels, slower shuttles are often preferred for easier control, while faster shuttles allow for baseline-to-baseline hits.
