Thermoelectric technology is ideal for smaller to medium cooling volumes. As the name suggests, thermoelectric coolers are powered by electricity. The advantage of thermoelectric systems is that certain devices can both cool and heat. The cooling performance depends on the ambient temperature: it can cool between 15 - 30 °C below the ambient temperature, depending on the device. Energy consumption is moderate, but the noise level tends to be higher. Thermoelectric coolers can be used without issues in tilted positions and have a relatively low weight.
